Top tips for your trip to Boston

Boston has four distinct seasons and can be colder than other places. Autumn, from September to November, is a popular season. It's when the trees change colour, making the perfect backdrop for a campervan in Boston. We wouldn't recommend visiting during the winter, as the snow and ice can make driving difficult. Summer is good; although it can get hot, it's perfect for exploring the coast.

  Driving in Boston

  Some streets can be tricky, and the traffic can be bad, especially at peak hours. The best thing to do when you rent a campervan in Boston is to park outside of the city and take public transport into the city. You will likely be heading straight out of the city to the surrounding areas.

  Boston is the perfect location to explore some of the great places in New England. The Charles River Reservation is ideal for getting on the water for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. The Blue Hills Reservation is only 15 miles outside the city, which is excellent for mountain biking or hiking.

  In addition to all the outdoor activities in the area, plenty of other attractions entertain the children. Boston's Children's Museum is a great place to spend a few hours, with plenty of hands-on fun to take part in. If your children love animals, then the New England Aquarium makes a good day out.

Best Campervan routes in Boston

Boston to the White Mountains
Hire a campervan in Boston and then drive the 180km to the white mountains  - a great weekend adventure along the I-93 highway. The White Mountains are the perfect place to explore if you love the outdoors. The whole area is a campervan dream. There are hiking trails for all abilities, some amazing waterfalls, and plenty of wildlife. We recommend heading up to Mount Washington, the tallest peak in the northeastern US, where you can get up Mount Washington Auto Road.

Boston to Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is about 450km away from Boston. It’s a fantastic drive along the coast for most of it. This gives you great views of the ocean and the chance to check out some of the coastal towns along the way. Our tip would be to break this trip over a few days and take your time. Two stops we recommend you call along the way are Portland, Maine, which is full of lovely old buildings. Camden in Maine is also worth calling, with its beautiful harbourfront and the fact that you could even hike up Mount Battie.

Boston to Niagara Falls
For a once-in-a-lifetime road trip, rent a motorhome in Boston and drive 750km along the I-90  to Niagra Falls, which is right on the border of New York and Canada. The drive is lovely and goes through some of the most scenic landscapes in Massachusetts. Along the way, stop at Albany or Syracuse for a break. Once you arrive, you could find a campsite near Lake Ontario. Overall, this route has something for everyone.

Cape Cod
Cape Cod is only 100km away and could make the perfect place to head for if you only have the campervan for a short time. It’s not quite a road trip, but it's far enough away to feel like an adventure. Cap Cod was made for campervan adventures. It's a peninsular that extends into the Atlantic Ocean, full of seafood restaurants, lighthouses, and some great little villages. We recommend heading for Provincetown, right at the top, where you could book a whale-watching tour.
