  • The Calgary-Banff-Jasper Route

This route has it all and it also offers some of the best views in Canada. Start in Calgary and enjoy the blue lakes and high peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Highway 93 has several provincial and private parks that go all the way up to the turquoise lakes at the Jasper National Park. This route is 257miles and it will take around 3-7 days.

  • Sudbury to Pukaskwa National Park Coastal Route

Start in Toronto and then travel north through Orillia and Parry Sound and then up to Sudbury. Keep heading towards the north to the beaches at Lake Superior National Park and discover the wilderness of Wawa and Pukaskwa National Park. This route is 444 miles and it will take around 6-10 days.

  • The Quebec River, Mountains and Lakes Route

Start in Montreal and travel along the St. Lawrence River to Quebec and then to Tadoussac for whale watching. Afterwards head towards the north to see the fjords around the enormous Lake St. Chemin, before returning back to Montreal. This route is 897 miles and it will take around 7-14 days.

  • Remember that in Canada they drive on the right, it is important to keep this in mind when overtaking or turning. You can turn right at a red light unless stated otherwise.

  • In some provinces during the day you are required to drive with your lights on.

  • Always take plenty of breaks and make sure you have enough food, water, warm clothing and fuel for the duration of your journey, as there are large stretches of roads without any shops or petrol stations.

  • The following speed limits apply when driving in Canada: motorways 100 km/h (62 mph), country roads 60-80 km/h (37-49 mph) but could vary in different provinces, 50 km/h (31 mph) in built up areas. Make sure to look out for roadsigns for speed limits.

Things To Do and See

  • Cape Breton's Highlands National Park : This national park has it all from rolling hills, seaside cliffs to boggy marshlands. You will also have amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean. Go for a walk on the Skyline Trail and discover the different wildlife.

  • Lion's Head Trail, Ontario: The walk is approximately 9½miles. It will take you to the 60 m limestone cliffs overlooking the bay, which has spectacular views. Make sure to be extra careful as there are no railings. Most of the track is quite rocky, sodon’t forget to bring your sturdy footwear with you.

  • Niagara Falls: This world famous attraction is just over an hour's drive away from Toronto. Visitors can use the lifts to the wetter vantage point for a behind the falls experience. You can go up to the top of the 160 m high Skylon Tower. The tower has an observation deck which offers spectacular views.

  • Banff National Park: A National Park located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. It is well known for its beautiful turquoise coloured lakes, snow-capped mountains and glaciers. The Banff National Park is perfect for a scenic drive or for going on a walk and taking in the fresh mountain air.
