It's difficult to blame the cheapest provider. Car, a C25, was not in order. Dirty, worn out and many things didn't work. Three power sockets were dead, water ran out from under the kitchen, odour was rather bad, bed linen was incomplete. But otherwise ok. Shower worked well. Water connection to water columns was leaking. The vehicle never ran straight and when braking it pulled to the left. One of the reversing sensors was broken. Overall, technically at the end. Still for orientation: The brochure was not what we got. Consumption at 90 km/h 20 to 25 litres, which is normal for this type of camper.

I knew the vehicle as I had rented one before. The rented vehicle was in good condition, year 2024 with 46000 km. The consumption was 22 litres / 100 km. We drove 7000 km, only had problems with the gas gauge as air bubbles formed.

We spent 10 wonderful days in the C30 with our two daughters; the C25 would have been sufficient. The motorhome has everything you need. We had no bad experiences. The only complaint is the cleanliness of the motorhome. When we picked up the vehicle, there was a very bad smell, a lot of dirt and dust was still present under the seats and in the cupboards, and the dishes were very badly washed. After a good clean by ourselves, the adventure and exploration could begin.

The handover of the Camper C21 was quick and the staff explained everything to us in a friendly manner. The return also only took about 20 minutes. Our motorhome with approx. 43000 km had various small defects. The shower dripped non-stop and so the floor was always wet. The reversing sensors that didn't work. It's a shame that the vehicle wasn't checked better before handover. Small defects that are annoying and not noticed at handover. Who wants to waste time on a repair while on holiday?

Very good experience. The Cruise Canada agency in Laval was top notch! It's a shame that Camper Days didn't accept an afternoon return (instead of a morning one).

Great vehicle, very practical, very easy to drive! Overall, the trip went well in the vehicle! However, there were a few minor problems (cleanliness needed to be reviewed) and on-board functionality was sometimes complicated (fridge door difficult to open, faulty propane gauge which caused the fridge to break down, a few broken chairs), and it was impossible to connect the 15-amp adapter to the campsites, which caused the circuit to trip. I note that the manager made a few trade discounts to compensate for these inconveniences, which we found to be fair. Have a good trip next time!

We enjoyed it immensely, especially in such a setting as quebec. It is quite expensive though and consumes enormously. The kitchen equipment was very limited. The table is small if there are more than 4 of you. Bedding and towels were fine.

Hire starts at 2pm and finishes at 11am. Given the cost of the rental, it would be preferable to have the vehicle available from 10am and to return it from 4pm.

The detailed documentation of the vehicle eliminates the need for a personal explanation (for a fee) on site.

Collection - only possible in the afternoon - and return - must take place by 9.00 a.m. at the latest - are out of all proportion. So you lose a whole day that you have paid for. No recommendation !!!

This vehicle consumes a little too much fuel in my opinion. 25l /100 km is a lot.

Top tips for your Campervan trip to Montreal

Montreal sure knows how to do extreme weather. Summer can be hot and humid, while winter can be full of snow. The sweet spot to visit is late spring or early autumn. This way, you get fewer tourists and nice weather - perfection.

  • Driving
    Driving

Driving around Montreal can feel like hard work - expect heavy traffic, one-way streets and locals who love to use their horns. Once you escape the city, things instantly get better. The roads are well-maintained, scenic and perfect if you’re travelling with a motorhome for hire in Montreal.

  • Family friendly-activities
    Family friendly-activities

The Montreal Biodome is a favourite for kids (and grown-ups who love penguins). It's an indoor ecosystem where you can walk from the tropics to Antarctica. If you hire a campervan in Montreal, consider visiting La Ronde, a theme park in the city (perfect for teenagers). For something more laid back, check out the Botanical Gardens.

  • The Outdoors
    The Outdoors

Canada and campervans are a match made in heaven, and Montreal’s surrounding areas won’t disappoint. Parc National d’Oka is less than an hour's drive and has beaches, hiking, and canoeing. Mont-Tremblant is also worth visiting, with all the outdoor activities you need.

Campervan offers for families in Montreal

If you want to go on a family camping holiday in Montreal, we recommend a large motorhome. Alcove models are very popular with families with children, as the motorhomes are spacious and have several sleeping and seating areas.

Best Campervan routes from Montreal

Travel routes

Montreal to Quebec City
This is a classic road trip (255km). Most people who rent a motorhome in Montreal follow the St. Lawrence River while stopping at charming little towns. Trois-Rivières is one of the best ones. It's a good place to stretch your legs and explore the quaint old town. When you arrive in Quebec, prepare for a city full of cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and cosy cafes serving amazing pastries. Many people who visit Quebec say it has a European feel.

Montreal to Mont-Tremblant National Park
A shorter drive, sure - but it's full of postcard scenery from start to finish. Monte-Tremblant National Park looks similar to an Alpine village with its bright buildings, old streets and hiking trails that were made for exploring. Once you’ve parked your campervan at one of the local campsites, swim in the lake, rent a kayak or just soak up the views.

Montreal to Toronto
This is the longest road trip on our list and deserves its own Spotify playlist. Head west from Montreal using Highway 301, which has plenty of Canadian scenery and lakes. If you've sorted your campervan hire in Montreal, stop halfway at Kingston, which sits right on the edge of Lake Ontario. It's a nice place to explore - take the ferry and explore the little islands. Once you arrive in Toronto, we recommend parking outside the city

Sites of interest and excursions in Montreal

Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville
Just 20 minutes from downtown Montreal, this campervan-friendly oasis feels miles away from the city but without the long drive. It's a small group of islands connected by paths and bridges. Rent a kayak or a bike, or just park, unpack some snacks, and relax in the great outdoors.

Mont-Saint-Bruno National Park
Just under an hour from Montreal, Mont-Saint-Bruno is the place to head to when you rent a campervan in Montreal and want to see nature that is not that far from the city. It has easy trails that wind past lakes, through leafy forests, and picnic areas to chill out with your campervan doors open and a few chairs outside. Theres also a visitor centre where you can grab a coffee.

Chambly Canal National Historic Site
Less than 30km from Montreal, Chambly Canal is a chilled-out place to walk, bike, or just watch the boats go past. Chambly has all the cafes and ice cream shops you will ever need and is a good place to stock up on local food before you head further afield in your campervan.

FAQs for Campervan hire in Montreal
  • Most rental companies allow it but always double-check first. The border crossing is easy if you have your passport and paperwork sorted.

  • Most people in Montreal speak both French and English. If you visit smaller towns, locals appreciate the effort if you try some basic French.

  • Wild camping is usually a no-go in Quebec, but the campsites here are so good that when you book a camper van for hire in Montreal, you probably won’t mind too much.

  • Moose do sometimes stray onto the roads. This is usually at dusk or dawn. Look out for the moose crossing signs, and keep an extra eye.

  • You should have no issues, but we recommend downloading offline maps just in case.

  • Grab some Montreal bagels, smoked meat sandwiches, and some ingredients to make your own poutine. It's not a proper road trip adventure without these.
