We hired a C25 leaving Salt Lake City on 17 September and returning to San Francisco on 21 October. On the 1st day, we noticed a number of malfunctions (water pump, engine warning light, no regulator, no car radio, no working socket). We went back to the agency the next day to report these faults. The sockets were repaired and the warning light 'removed' thanks to the suitcase. As for the rest, we were told that nothing could be done. We had to make an exchange after 10 days by changing our route. The new RV had a burnt-out cell battery that had to be replaced. Thank goodness for efficient assistance! But it was a very bad experience!

There were three of us and some days four of us travelling! Enough space for max. 6 people! Everything included, cookware, cutlery, cups, plates, towels, duvet, big enough! Early Bird worked well this time! We were generally very satisfied!

We booked a C21 for 15 nights with Cruise America in Salt Lake City. The service was great at pick-up and drop-off. We received a relatively new motorhome with no damage. It wasn't perfectly clean, but still perfectly fine. The C21 was sufficient for us (2 people). We booked unlimited generator use. In retrospect, this would not have been necessary. We were very satisfied overall and would book here again.

Unpleasant service provider who tried to sell us their options at all costs, even though we hadn't chosen them on the internet! He had already prepared the kitchen units in the camper van even though we hadn't chosen the option, and told us that we had already paid for them even though he then billed us for them... ! All this while making no effort to communicate. The gauge sensors were wrong (full/empty), which is not at all practical for knowing when to go to the oil change station. The service provider said we'd received a video link to explain the problem, but we hadn't. I asked him to send it to me by email. I asked her to email it to me... She replied, "Go and have a look on youtube... No comment!

Very large RV that you have to be careful of when manoeuvring in town! Very poor insulation, we were cold in the morning and the heater makes a lot of noise! Fragile equipment! Handles broken without bludgeoning. Very noisy generator; we didn't use it practically, having taken the unlimited option.... Consumption commensurate with its size! 23 litres per 100 km. But perfect for touring the great American outdoors. For hire only! Next time I'll take the lower model!

Tedious vehicle pick-up Bed linen not adapted to the season, we were cold the first 2 days before going to buy warmer blankets. Still waiting for the release of my deposit on my Mastercard more than a week after returning the motorhome.

Top tips for your Campervan trip to Salt Lake City
Utah’s landscape can be extreme, so be prepared for scorching hot summers and snow in the winter. Spring and autumn are the best times to hire a campervan in Salt Lake City; there are cheaper and fewer crowds. If you plan to do any hiking, be ready for some altitude changes as Salt Lake City sits at over 4,000 feet, and many surrounding trails climb even higher.
- DrivingThe roads are wide and well maintained, and there is some excellent scenery once you get outside the city. Winters can be tricky as snowstorms can hit hard, especially in the mountain areas. Check the weather before heading out, especially in places like Big Cottonwood Canyon or Park City.
- Family Friendly-ActivitiesHead to Antelope Island State Park, just north of the city, and you’ll find beaches and hiking trails, and you may even see a few bison roaming about. Loveland Living Planet Aquarium always goes well with kids as it's home to sharks, penguins, and a rainforest exhibition.
- The OutdoorsJust outside of Salt Lake City is Big Cottonwood Canyon, a popular place for those who rent a motorhome in Salt Lake City. You can enjoy being outside, taking in the scenery, and snapping pictures. About an hour west, Bonneville Slat Flats makes you feel like you are on another planet.
Campervan offers for couples in Salt Lake City
For a romantic trip for two exploring Salt Lake City and other cities nearby, a smaller motorhome is just right. Discover our selection of vehicles for two people and explore together.

Best Campervan routes from Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City to Moab
This 375km route takes you straight into Red Rock Country. Start by heading southeast, stopping at the town of Price to pick up some supplies and visit the Utah State Prehistoric Museum. Then, continue into Moab, where you will find the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks with towering rock formations and amazing landscapes. You could spend weeks exploring around here and never get to see everything, but campervan hire in Salt Lake City will allow you to see more of it than most people get to see.
Salt Lake City to Yellowstone National Park
While you are in a campervan, it's worth driving the 520km to one of the most famous national parks in the world, Yellowstone. On the way, head through Bear Lake, where you can stop for one of its famous milkshakes and carry on into Idaho before reaching Yellowstone. See Old Faithful, go wildlife spotting and park your campervan in one of the best places you could ever wish to camp.
Salt Lake City to Zion National Park
Take the I-15 south of South Lake City and head towards Utah’s most visited national park. Stop at Cedar City along the way and then carry on toward Zion, where towering red cliffs, slot canyons and scenic drives await you. Hike the Narrows, take in Angel’s Landing (if you dare) or just park up and enjoy the view.
Sites of interest and excursions in Salt Lake City
Timpanogos Cave National Monument
About 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City, these caves are perfect for those who love adventure. It's full of tunnels, eerie rock formations and underground chambers that look like an alien planet. It's quite a walk up there, but it's worth it as you get a guided tour through the caves to see crystal structures and glowing stalactites. It's also lovely and cool inside to escape the summer heat.
Red Butt Garden
Red Butte Garden is the place to go if you want great views without a long drive, as it's right on the city's edge. It combines botanical gardens and hiking trails, perfect for stretching your legs before or after a long drive. The best time to visit is in Autumn when the gardens explode with colour, and in the summer, they sometimes have outdoor concerts.
Silver Lake
Silver Lake is just 40 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City and is as peaceful as it gets. There is an easy boardwalk trail that circles the lake, which is nice for everyone to walk around, regardless of their ability. It's also a great place to kayak and paddleboard in the summer. It's the kind of place that makes you forget how close you are to the city.

If one wanders near your van, stay inside and let it do its thing. They can get aggressive if they feel threatened, and trust us, your campervan won’t win that fight.
