- CamperDays stands for transparency! That's why we give every customer the opportunity to share their experiences with other customers after their campervan trip.
Queenstown is the perfect place if you are after beautiful landscapes and adventure activities, and in our opinion, this fits right in with a campervan holiday. If you hire a campervan in Queenstown through us, you will get the best deals, as we have a team of experts who work with local campervan owners to bring you the best deals. If you are after beautiful mountains and lovely lakes or just exploring somewhere new, hiring a campervan in Queensland will let you do just that.
Queenstown isn’t just about adventure, though. There are plenty of laid-back hikes across the area, and many mining towns with rich and varied histories exist. When you rent a campervan in Queensland, you can wake up somewhere different around the area each day.
Forget the places everyone heads to in New Zealand, such as Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington, and rent a motorhome in Queenstown, which should not be underestimated.

Useful tips for your holiday in Queenstown
The best time for motorhome hire in Queenstown depends on what you want from your holiday. December to February are the warmer months of the year, good for biking and festivals. Winter from June to August is the best if you want to head to the ski resorts. The shoulder season from September to November can be good, as it can still be warm, but prices can be cheaper.
- Skiing and Snowboarding
If you want to combine camper van hire in Queenstown with some time on the slopes, the snow is at its best in August. However, prices are higher, so consider June, July, or September.
- Hiking
The areas around Queenstown were made for hiking. The Ben Lomond Track provides breathtaking scenery and a rewarding summit experience. Plenty of routes exist depending on how far or hard you want to walk.
- Shopping
Queenstown isn’t the biggest of places, but it has some great shops. The Creative Queenstown Arts & Crafts Market is held every Saturday at the Five Mile Shopping Centre.

Best campervan routes around Queenstown
Queenstown to Glenorchy to Paradise
This is a lovely drive and only a short one, taking you about an hour outside of Queenstown in total. You start with great views of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by breathtaking mountains and fantastic forests. You could find somewhere to stay in your motorhome here or carry straight on to Paradise, an excellent place for nature lovers, but more importantly, it's where some scenes from Lord Of The Rings were filmed.
Queenstown to Milford Sound
Taking this drive in your camper van will be one of the best drives you can do in New Zealand. The highlight of this route is the Fiordland National Park, which has some of the most dramatic landscaping in New Zealand and anywhere in the world. After Fiordland, you carry on to Milford Sound, often described as the world's eighth wonder due to its beautiful waterfalls and stunning cliff faces.
Queenstown to Wanaka via the Crown Range
The drive from Queenstown to Wanaka via the Crown Range will take you through some of the most picturesque areas in New Zealand. After leaving Queenstown, head to Arrowtown, a charming little gold mining town that's somewhere different from your usual places. It's one of the highest roads in New Zealand, which is why we had to add it to your itinerary. Visit the iconic Cardrona Hotel, which is one of the oldest hotels in all of New Zealand.
Key sights and attractions around Queenstown
Arrowtown
This is only a short drive outside of Queenstown (about 30 minutes). It is an old mining town full of character and offers excellent shopping and dining to anyone visiting. It's a good place to call to pick up some souvenirs for your trip.
Lake Wakatipu
We mentioned Lake Wakatipu earlier in one of the routes. It's a massive lake that can be found right on the shore of Queenstown itself, so you can’t miss it. Plenty of campsites are along its coast, and we don’t think there's any better way to camp than along a lake. You don’t even have to drive far to get to the lake.
Coronet Peak Ski Area
If you are after motorhome rental in Queenstown and love the outdoors, head up to Coronet Peak Ski Area, as its the ultimate playground for skiing and snowboarding. These activities go hand in hand with a camper van or motorhome. You can’t drive up to the top, but you can stay overnight in the area.

No, you can’t do this, as it would be against the law. There are plenty of campsites in the area, such as Department of Conservation (DOC), commercial campsites, and regional camping.
Yes, there are plenty in the area, but if you are going somewhere more remote, it's important to plan ahead.
