Top tips for your Campervan trip to The Czech Republic

Like much of Europe, the primary season is from Easter until the end of September. If you want the best weather, July and August are the months to visit. We recommend motorhome rental in the Czech Republic in early spring or late September, when the crowds have died down, but the weather is still good.

  • Driving
    Driving
Most roads are wide, except some smaller mountain roads, which can get full of snow in the winter. There are toll roads you need to be aware of, but your campervan provider should be able to assist you with this. Driving in Prague can be hard work, but chances are you will be out of the capital for most of your stay.
  • Family Friendly-Activities
    Family Friendly-Activities
Prague Zoo is often recognised as one of the best in the world, which makes for a great day out. The Museum of Senses always goes down well and has over 50 exhibitions for kids. Aquapalace Praha is a massive waterpark just 30 minutes outside Prague that all the family will enjoy.
  • The outdoors
    The outdoors
When you rent a motorhome in the Czech Republic, you’re perfectly set up to explore. Bohemian Switzerland National Park has sandstone cliffs, forests, and Pravčická Gatee, Europe's largest natural stone arch. Adršpach-Teplice Rocks is known as the city of rocks, where you will feel like you’re on another planet.

Best Campervan routes in The Czech Republic

Prague to Bohemian Switzerland National Park
Start in Prague (as it's probably where you will hire a campervan in the Czech Republic) and head north towards the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. Despite the name, this location is all in the Czech Republic and full of amazing valleys just waiting to be explored. The star attraction is Pravčická brána, Europe's largest natural sandstone arch. Stop in the nearby village of Hřensko while you are passing and grab some lunch.

Brno to Jeseníky Mountains
Brno is the Czech Republic's second city, with a more laid-back vibe than Prague. After stocking up on supplies, head north into the Jeseníky Mountains. Visit Karlova Studánka (often referred to as one of Europe's prettiest towns) and hike to Praděd, the highest peak in Moravia. Park up your campervan in one of the many campsites in the area and settle down for a night under the stars.

Ostrava to Beskydy Mountains
Ostrava has an industrial past, which has now become a cultural hub. Check out the old mining areas or sample some local beer before heading south to the Beskydy Mountains. Along the way, stop at Pustevny, known for its painted wooden houses and great views. Park up, light a campfire, toast some marshmallows, and thank yourself for finding such a great place.

Sites of interest and excursions in The Czech Republic

Krumlov
If towns could enter beauty contests, Český Krumlov would win every time. We talk about old medieval towns a lot here at CamperDays, but this one is one of the best. Sure, it might be hard to drive around, but when you pick up your camper van for hire in the Czech Republic, you must head down here. Cobbled streets, colourful buildings, and cafes tucked away in alleyways. Walk through the castle gardens, rent a boat on the river, or climb the tower. You’ll be convinced that you’ve stepped back in time.

South Moravia & the Wine Region
Everyone goes on about France and its win, but Moravia is Europe's best-kept wine secret, and with a campervan, you can be part of it. It's full of rolling hills with vineyards that stretch out in every direction and are dotted with small villages. Park up your campervan (as you will likely be drinking wine), hire a bike, and spend the day tasting wine, eating crisps, and enjoying life. Don’t worry if you don't know your Chardoonay from your Sauvignon (after a few glasses, you won't mind anyway).

Czech Karkonosze
Campervans, in our opinion, are made to explore the outdoors, and that's exactly what the Karkonosze Mountains are all about. It's where the Czech Republic shows off its wild side. Lovely green forests, waterfalls, and hiking trails for everyone. These are best visited in the summer. Park up your campervan and wake up to the smell of that fresh mountain air.
